super bowl countdown!

i kind of love super bowl sunday. the food, the commercials, the beer, and oh yeah, the football. this year, my team is going to the big dance (yay!) so i'll be as into the game as the food. what's on your super bowl menu? 

chez cheeky, we'll be trying some new recipes and having a few favorites. 

pre-game: asian lettuce wraps and chinese chicken wings

kick-off: korean beef tacos

half-time: cake batter rice krispy treats

update: the outcome was beyond disappointing and the commercials were mostly boring but at least our super bowl food rocked! my fellow new englanders might appreciate the wisdom of bill simmons on the silver lining to super bowl XLVI

i am already behind in participating in paint the moon's let's do 52 - oops! the theme for week one was sharing so during craftpocalpyse, i snapped a shot the inks my friend brought to share with me. they are seriously cool and i definitely need to get some of my own soon. thanks, mary!

craftpocalypse 2012

my friend, mary, and i had a brilliant weekend of making cards. what beats girls' night at zaytinya, cava cocktails, crafting, and a downton abbey marathon? as always, the time went by far too quickly!

it's a girls' weekend chez cheeky! the cava is chilling, we have reservations at one of my favorite restaurants, and these will be waiting for dessert:

red velvet rice krispy treats (from pass the sushi) 

• 3 tablespoons butter 
• 1 (10.5 ounce) bag mini marshmallows 
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 
• 3/4 cup red velvet cake mix 
• 6 cups cocoa rice krispies cereal 
• 4 ounces white chocolate chips, melted 

line a 9×9 inch pan with wax or parchment paper; coat well with cooking spray. set aside. in a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. add marshmallows, cake mix, and vanilla stirring frequently, until melted and smooth. fold in the cereal until well combined and coated. transfer sticky cereal mixture to the prepared pan, pressing down until the top is level. drizzle white chocolate over top.

hello 2012

happy new year! (a little late)

i really meant for my first post of 2012 to be sooner but somehow january is already flying by.  we have been busy getting our place ready for visits from friends and family. and a certain husband is celebrating a birthday next month!

this weekend my fellow craft geek, mary, is coming down for a few days of crafting and wine time - aka craftpocalypse 2012. watch out, DC!
