tonight, i came home to a lovely stack of books from my crafty gal pal, mary. including a copy of the house at tyneford autographed by natasha solomon. for fellow downton abbey fans, this is the perfect book to hold you over until season three.

girls' night checklist

the ingredients for a proper girls' night

is it fall yet?

so it is as hot as hell here in DC. heat and humidity make me a wee bit crabby. and it's going to be even hotter tomorrow . . . 

as a true new england girl, i really only love summer when i can escape the heat at the beach. until mid-september, you can me hibernating in my apartment with fanboy, plenty of crisp white wine, and our netflix queue. all the while, i will be dreaming of the ocean.

cheeky recipe: sweet and spicy bacon chicken

this recipe falls into the "make this now" category. and it's easy. and really, what isn't better with bacon?

sweet and spicy bacon chicken (adapted from diary of a recipe addict)

• 4 chicken breasts cut in thirds (12 pieces)bacon slices (i used black forest bacon)
• salt and pepper to taste
• garlic powder
• chili powder
• brown sugar

cut each breast into 3 pieces, season all the chicken with the spices, then wrap a bacon slice around each piece, roll in brown sugar and place into an oven proof dish. make sure you have some olive oil in the dish too, like 2 or 3 tablespoons is fine (i just used cooking spray).

bake at 400 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes or until chicken is cooked through and bacon is nice and brown and crispy.

have i mentioned my love for all things jose andres? the man is a culinary genius. and he let's small breweries takeover his taps at america eats tavern. this weekend, it was durham's fullsteam brewery. craft beer + jose andres' food = weekend happiness
